Summer Transition Programs
Summer Transition Programs are for Center children enrolled during the prior year and new children entering the Toddler, EC 1, EC 2 and Kindergarten programs.
Center students are encouraged to attend at least two of the six weeks offered for transition to the upcoming year. Parents may choose to have their child attend all six weeks or a combination of weeks.
The goal of Summer Transition is to acquaint the child with her new teachers and new classroom. To ease the change, the programs are led by Early Childhood and Kindergarten faculty. This way, the children get to build a relationship with the new adult who will lead her class in the coming school year. Ratios of students to teachers and fee structure are consistent with year-round programs.
Enrollment for the Summer Transition Program opens towards the beginning of the calendar year. Click on your child's appropriate program below to learn more about each program.

- Toddler Introductions: Students Entering Toddler in September
- Students Entering EC1 in September
- Students Entering EC2 in September
- Kinder Camp (Voyagers): Students Entering Kindergarten in September
This class is offered as two one-week sessions during the month of July. The program is conducted with a Parent and Me model for two hours, giving children entering the program an opportunity to become familiar with his/her new school while allowing parents to socialize and discuss parenting issues with other parents. The Toddler team keeps the same schedule as that of the school year to further help children acclimate to the program. It is our hope that this short introduction to school helps children more readily separate during the fall. Please note this class is only offered to current students.
*Please note that Toddler AM parents should sign up for the morning portion and Toddler PM parents should sign up for the afternoon portion.
Transitioning EC2 students have a chance to have a fulfilling time in their new classroom for the fall, with a schedule that includes arts and crafts, outdoor activities, water play, and exciting assemblies. Every two weeks a new and thrilling theme is presented for a true camp feel with EC2 teachers guiding the way. The themes are enriched with stories, songs, artistic activities, games, and dramatic play.
During camp, the following themes will be presented:
Weeks 1 & 2 - Exploring Colors
Weeks 3 & 4 - Campings
Weeks 5 & 6 - Beach/Aloha
The weeks are full of fun, space to explore, and time to get to know their new teachers and classmates. As the weeks go on they become familiar with the routine and their new (often longer) schedule. In addition to the regular camp activities, on Tuesdays and Thursdays the children have an opportunity to engage in water play, bike riding, and ball play as well as art activities. It goes without saying that the children have a blast as they learn and play in this familiar environment!
Students will also have the opportunity to participate in exciting assembly programs including Bubblemania and the Aquarium on Wheels!
The six-week experience of Kinder Camp at CEE offers a chance to have a fulfilling time in our two Kindergarten classrooms, with a schedule that includes arts and crafts, active outdoor play, and exciting field trips. We offer an introduction to a variety of environments and themes for learning, with Kindergarten teachers guiding the way. In addition to the stimulating daily activities, the children become familiar with their new classrooms and get to know the Kindergarten teachers, with whom they will spend their days during the school year.
During the program, the Kindergarten teachers (working in 2-week segments) will guide the children in fun-filled experiences. This summer, will will have the following themes:
Rocks, Minerals and Gems!
Plants and Insects
Architecture and Building
Each of these units are enriched with a variety of children's literature, relevant art activities, and active adventure games. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we take field trips to local sites, which will include The Natural History Museum, The California Science Center, UCLA Sculpture Garden, Descanso Gardens, Old LA Zoo, and Skirball Cultural Center.
