  • Thurs. 6/4 7:30 PM: Managing Screen Time, Gaming, and Connecting Online During Quarantine (C3-C6)

A Q&A with Sarah Bowman, Lisa Solomon, and Matt Arguello
    Zoom information to be emailed
Geared towards C3-C6 parents; all welcome

Please join Sarah Bowman and Lisa Solomon from Common Sense Media, and Matt Arguello, Director of Innovation at CEE, for a Q&A and discussion on managing screen time and gaming over the summer. We’ll cover some concrete screen time tools, strategies for making gaming safer, and how to take advantage of Common Sense resources for your family.
Sarah Bowman is the Senior Director for Los Angeles at Common Sense Media. She brings a wide array of experience to her role at Common Sense and believes strongly in the value of teaching all kids media literacy skills. She knows, by virtue of having raised two millennial children, that conversation about what kids are learning and seeing in the world and online is the best antidote to today's ever-shifting, 24/7 media landscape. Both of her kids are CEE graduates.

Lisa Solomon is the Regional Manager in Los Angeles for Common Sense. She’s been with the non-profit for 4 years and is deeply involved in its work in LA schools. She's very passionate about media literacy and working with kids to create civil discourse around tough issues. Her most challenging and gratifying audience is always her two teens (a son and daughter) both attending Palisades Charter High School.

  • THURS. 5/28 7:00 PM: FAIR PLAYING YOUR WAY THROUGH COVID-19 WITH EVE RODSKY

On Thursday, May 28 at 7:00pm, tune in to learn about CEE parent Eve Rodsky’s Fair Play principles, which can help us achieve success as our homes and the relationships within them become our most important organization while we practice social distancing and quarantine.
Working from home while homeschooling has become a new norm. Join Eve, the New York Times bestselling author of Fair Play, as she provides tools to clearly define roles and expectations to divvy up the household workload fairly and communicate with grace and generosity.

After working in foundation management at J.P. Morgan, Eve founded the Philanthropy Advisory Group to advise high-net worth families and charitable foundations on best practices for harmonious operations, governance and disposition of funds. In her work with hundreds of families over a decade, she realized that her expertise in family mediation, strategy, and organizational management could be applied to a problem closer to home – a system for couples seeking balance, efficiency, and peace in their homes.

The session will be moderated by Amanda Farrand, VP of  Brand Partnerships with Hello Sunshine.

Dr. Wendy Slusser is Associate Vice Provost for the Semel Healthy Campus Initiative Center at UCLA; Dr. Slusser is also HS Clinical Professor of Pediatrics in the UCLA Schools of Medicine and Public Health, and Co-Founder and Academic Director of the UCLA Fit for Healthy Weight program. She completed her internship and residency in Pediatrics at Babies Hospital, Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. She joined the UCLA faculty in 1996 and since then has been a leader in community, school, clinic, and family-based programs related to health promotion, infant and child nutrition, and physical fitness. She is committed to health and wellness in campus communities, and she leads the innovative Semel Healthy Campus Initiative Center at UCLA.

Dr. Eric Esrailian is a physician, Emmy-nominated film producer, entrepreneur, and CEE parent and trustee who is actively involved in philanthropic efforts connecting health, human rights, education, and the arts. He is the Chief of the Vatche and Tamar Manoukian Division of Digestive Diseases at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

He produced the films The Promise by Terry George, and the educational companion documentary, Intent to Destroy, which drew unprecedented attention to the Armenian Genocide. These films contributed to U.S. Congressional recognition of the historical facts, and led to the creation of The Promise Institute for Human Rights and The Promise Armenian Institute at UCLA.

In 2012, the School of Medicine awarded him the Lincy Foundation Chair in Clinical Gastroenterology. He is closely involved in strategic planning efforts for the UCLA Health, the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and for the entire university.
